If you need the hectic buzz of the big-city life, then this place is not for you. If on the other hand, you appreciate the country-life of Southern France and want to experience the origin of the saying ‘living like God in France’, then this is the place to go. The property is situated perfectly overlooking what the Languedoc and especially the Saint Chinian region is famous for: vineyards. From the terrace, whether it is morning, noon or evening, the view is spectacular. On a slope, where the pine-trees act as the stage for an unobstructed belle-view on the ‘domaines’, we were surrounded by the music of the ‘cigales’ and the characteristic local winds whistling through the trees. These winds – as the proprietors explained – come by names like Mistral and Tramontana and can really influence how you experience a day. If they make you feel restless, then there are plenty of places to go to in the neighbourhood. Small villages where you can discover the history of the region, visit the markets (there is one nearby almost every day during the season) or taste the local food at affordable prices. The proprietors can also guide you to a number of ‘domaines’ where friendly experts can make a ‘degustation’ an unforgettable experience. Want to balance the intake of calories with some exercise? We found that there are plenty of possibilities to hike and bike (marked trails) and other outdoor opportunities. Returning from whatever journey, we found the accommodation to perfectly suit our needs; tidy, complete and full of character.
The only other thing you can then still be hoping for is some civilised and helpful proprietors, and that was the least of our concerns!
